Land Use Bylaw Re-Write
Our Zoning Blueprint was Beaumont’s Land Use Bylaw Re-write project. The community wanted a innovative approach to land use that would integrate the newly annexed lands, simplify and clarify the regulations, provide clear design standards, streamline the application process, and implement the strategic direction and vision of the Municipal Development Plan. The final bylaw, delivered by McElhanney Consulting with Plateia Planning and Sztuk Architecture, delivered on that vision.
With comprehensive engagement techniques designed specifically for a land use bylaw, the consultant team complimented the downtown redevelopment project and economic development strategy also in progress. Stakeholders provided key input and the draft bylaw was thoroughly tested with staff and developers. A monitoring report rounded out the transition strategy to the new bylaw.
The final bylaw was approved unanimously in April 2019 with full support from community members and developers. The Mayor hailed it as a ‘renaissance’ in land use planning.
